Avandia and Other Defective Drug Questions

Presented by an Avandia Lawyer at Cappolino Dodd Krebs, LLP

Helping Avandia Injury Victims Nationwide

How do I know if the drug I am using is defective?

It is sometimes hard to determine. Often, the side effects of a drug are subtle but can have lasting, harmful effects. In other cases, the damage is immediate and often debilitating. Serious side effects are not a fact of life. Call us today if you suspect the drug you are using to be defective.

What if I have used a defective drug that is not on your list of practice areas?

Call us. Even if the drug you are concerned about does not appear on our list, our lawyers have extensive experience in numerous medical malpractice and defective drug litigations and can help you determine if you have been the victim of defective drugs.

I think the drug I'm taking may be defective. Should I stop taking it?

No. You should consult your doctor before discontinuing any medication. Also, if you notice any effect that you suspect to be a result of taking a potentially defective drug , contact your doctor immediately. After meeting with your doctor, you should contact one of our attorneys immediately.

How do I know if I have a case?

The answer to this question depends on many different factors, but if you have taken or are currently taking VIOXX, Bextra, Adderall XR, Accutane, Ephedra, Avandia, Terbutaline, Kugel Mesh, Hernia Patch, Ortho Evra, AMO Complete Moisture Plus, drugs containing PPA (Alka-Selzer Plus, Acutrim, Comtrex, Contac, Dexatrim, Dimetapp, Robitussin, Tavist-D, Triaminic), Prempro, or Provera and have experienced any side effect that concerns you, you may have a case. If you believe you have been a victim of defective drugs, please contact our firm today.

How much will a lawyer cost?

In most cases, our lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. That is, you will not pay any money unless your lawsuit is won, in which case the attorney’s fee is based on a predetermined percentage of the total settlement. In other words, we only get paid if you do. Otherwise, you pay nothing.

If I win my case, what sort of compensation can I expect?

That is a difficult question to answer. Every case is different, but we can assure you that we will work hard to get you everything you deserve.

Why is Avandia suspected of being a defective drug?

Rosiglitazone maleate, marketed as Avandia, Avandamet and Avandaryl is an insulin sensitizer that has been beneficial to patients who have Type 2 (non insulin dependant) diabetes. Unfortunately, Avandia has been known to promote fluid retention, a precursor to more serious conditions such as hypertension and congestive heart failure.

Data from several retrospective studies also indicates that patients who have taken Avandia have an increased risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, which is why the FDA convened in 2007 to consider an Avandia recall.

While the FDA did not issue an Avandia recall, it did require the makers of Avandia to add a box warning – which is the strongest warning ordered by the FDA – to state data suggests that Avandia is associated with an increased risk of angina or myocardial infarct (a heart attack).

If you have suffered myocardial problems and you suspect Avandia may be the cause, an Avandia lawyer at Cappolino Dodd Krebs, LLP can determine if you have a claim for damages and should file an Avandia lawsuit.
